Carrefour to host Charity Fitness Day to support Kilimanjaro fundraising effort

by isleofman.com 25th January 2016
Carrefour Health Club is hosting a Charity Fitness Day next month to support one of its members who is climbing Kilimanjaro later this year in support of The Children's Centre.

The event has been organised by Merita Taylor, who will attempt to climb Africa’s tallest mountain in October along with a number of other Island residents.

The Charity Fitness Day will take place between 8am and 1pm on Saturday 6 February in the main studio at Carrefour on Wellington Street in the heart of Douglas, and will feature five of the club’s popular personal trainers teaching five back to back classes. The programme is:

Kick Aerobics/Tae Bo - Martin Malone 0815 – 0900
Power Yoga - Dave Sykes 0905 – 0950
Shred - Shaz Bridgens 1000 – 1050
Spin - Olivia Newstead 1100 – 1150
Circuits - Sam Treanor 1200 – 1300

Each class will cost ?5 to attend, and must be pre-booked and paid for. There will be spot prizes in each class, and all of those who complete the five classes will be entered into a prize draw. There will also be a raffle on the day, and in the week leading up to the event. Tickets can be purchased from the Carrefour Reception team.

Merita has to raise ?3,650 for the charity, which will also include some of the costs of her trip. However, all of the money raised in this event will go directly to The Children's Centre and will benefit specifically projects including the Community Farm, Thriving Families, the Child Contact Centre and Playwork schemes. These rely solely on charitable donations in order to run.

Karl Bruder, Manager of Carrefour Carrefour Health Club, commented: "We’re really pleased to be supporting Merita in her attempt to climb Kilimanjaro and in her fundraising efforts for The Children’s Centre. This is a fantastic goal for her to focus on, and she is supporting a very worthwhile charity of which Carrefour Health Club is a long-term supporter. We are delighted to be offering our facilities for such a good cause and would urge people to book their space on one or more of the classes – what better way to get fit and support a fantastic, local charity at the same time!”

On the day, members of the Carrefour Health Club team will be on hand to welcome anyone who is interested in having a look around the gym facilities, which have undergone a significant refurbishment programme over the last 12 months, with a view to becoming a member or finding out more about nutrition and training plans.

For further information or to book a place at the event, please contact Carrefour Health Club's Reception Team on 01624 615595.
