Champs suffer first defeat in more than two years
Southern Nomads hadn’t been beaten in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield since December 2013 – until today!
Ramsey B were the team to do it, winning 25-13 against the champions in a game switched to Mooragh Park due to Nomads’ pitch being unfit.
Daniel Murray’s try after just 51 seconds gave Ramsey an early lead.
Nomads hit back with tries from Harry Wint and Colin Kelly and a penalty from Furo Davies to lead 13-5 before Craig Long struck for Ramsey just before half-time to leave the game balanced at 13-10.
In the second half, debutant Greg Radcliffe went over for his first try before Messrs Long and Murray each crossed for their second of the game to seal the win.
Elsewhere in the Shield, Western Vikings beat Emerging Nomads 34-19.
Liam Sweeney and Peter Crowe both bagged two apiece for Vikings with Mike Caldwell and Winkie McCleod also crossing and Caldwell kicking two conversions.
A late Nomads’ revival saw tries from Furo Davies, Pat Creer and John Ali, with Davies converting two.
At Ballafletcher, Douglas B pipped old rivals Vagabonds B 14-10.
Douglas led 7-0 at the break through Bradley Martin’s try and Rory Neale’s conversion.
Vagas took the lead 10-7 early in the second half but Douglas secured the win when Jean Burl crossed and Neale kicked his second conversion.
