Petition launched appealing horse tram decision

by isleofman.com 22nd January 2016
Following this morning's news that Douglas Council plan to cease the historic horse tram service on Douglas promenade locals have been quick to express their thoughts.

An online petition against the decision has been set up and can be viewed here.

Comments on the manx.net Facebook page include:

"The Isle of Man, is steeped in culture, and the Horse Trams are a big part of that culture, destruction, for the sake of all these so called cut backs!"

"Appalling decision what's next to go? The Laxey wheel!"

But the decision hasn't been met with total opposition with others arguing:

"Cultures have to come to an end when we progress. Put it in a museum, we will be happy to see them. Like we love seeing the stone circles."

"..when was the last time you paid full fare for a trip? Not the discretionary about rate payers get either? Don't hate me for asking but it's use it or lose it and it's not been used so as with any other failing attractions they have to close."
