Christmas Tree recycling raises over ?3000 for Hospice

by isleofman.com 22nd January 2016
New events manager for Hospice, Sharon Connor was delighted with the response to the Christmas Tree recycling initiative organised by Hospice this year. The scheme raised just under ?3,500 for the local charity with over 400 Christmas trees being picked up from far and wide around the Island.

Sharon, assisted by some Hospice staff and volunteers, and staff from Newfield and Old Mutual worked extensively over 3 days, culminating in this large volume of trees being dropped to Ballaneven in Peel for composting.

Sharon thanked Richard Kneen for his support with this initiative.

Sharon would also like to thank Athol Garage and 4Hire for the support with vans ensuring that this work was carried out in the quickest manner possible. She commented: “At one stage we had 5 vehicles out and about around the Island.”

Pictured are Sharon along with Amy Davenport from the fundraising team and Alex Konarski, Alex Harrison, Chris Bulley, John Myers and Rod Nielsen from Old Mutual.

These guys along with Dan Connor, Marcus Dixon, Dan Turner, Marcus Dixon and Dillon Bridges – all from Newfield worked really hard.

She would also like to thank Conor Doyle and Laura Dancox for volunteering too.

The mapping is organised by a UK-based company Just Helping who provide all the background administration support for this scheme.

It was hard physical work but a lot of fun – definitely as good as a gym workout!
