Ramsey in Bloom reveals ‘high degree of horticultural skill’

The Ramsey in Bloom 2015 competition attracted an outstanding quality of entries and revealed a high degree of horticultural skill, said Ramsey Town Commissioners’ lead member for parks and leisure Stephen Rand.

Mr Rand was speaking at the awards presentation held at Ramsey town hall on January 14, 2016 when he congratulated everyone who entered before presenting prizes and trophies in 16 categories.

New for 2016 was the 150th Commemorative Cup in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the constitution of Ramsey Town Commissioners. In 2015 the Ramsey in Bloom winners’ tour was introduced, providing an opportunity for the public to visit every winning garden, meet the owners then vote for their favourite garden.

The votes cast, the ‘people’s choice’ for the inaugural 150th Commemorative Cup award went to the Kerroo Glass sheltered housing complex.

First-place winners in Ramsey in Bloom 2015 were:

Kerroo Glass: public buildings section;
Patricia Wild Opticians: commercial premises (small);
Ramsey Bakery: commercial premises (large);
Mrs A Thompson: private gardens (small);
June Nicholls: private gardens (large);
Di Hull and Steve Mitcham: little gems;
Kerroo Glass, with special mention of Peter Rogerson: community project;
Nick Sykes: The Maureen Ball wildlife trophy;
Mrs C.M Quayle: The Ken Barnes Cup for outstanding containerised plants;
June Nicholls: The Anne Skinner Memorial Cup for outstanding plant collection;
Peter Rogerson: The Ann Martin Memorial Shield for special effort;
Mrs L Grugan: The Richard Radcliffe Cup for best overall newcomer;
Mrs L Grugan: The Booilshag Cup for best newcomer in RTC housing;
Ann Thompson: The Ramsey Town Cup for the best garden in RTC housing;
Mrs P Quinn: The Beryl Quine Memorial Cup for excellence in hanging baskets;
Kerroo Glass: The 150th Commemorative Cup.

Application forms for the 2016 Ramsey in Bloom competition are now available from Ramsey town hall and can be downloaded from www.ramsey.gov.im.  Entries will close on Thursday June 30 with judging taking place between Wednesday July 13 and Friday July 15.

The Winners’ Tour will be held on Sunday July 17 and the prize presentation on Thursday July 28.
