Boy chorister wanted

by isleofman.com 11th January 2016
The Isle of Man Choral Society is searching for a young male treble or soprano soloist for its latest production in the Villa Marina.

The Society, now almost 140 strong, is busy rehearsing John Rutter’s Requiem for a concert in the Villa Marina on Sunday 20th March 2016.

As part of his Requiem, Mr Rutter wrote a beautiful number for a treble or soprano soloist – the Pie Jesu. This solo is backed by the whole choir and will be accompanied at IOM Choral Society’s performance by Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra.

Brian Holt, secretary of IOM Choral Society, said, "Boy’s voices can be truly magical and because of this, IOM Choral Society would, once again, particularly like to engage a treble to sing this poignant solo. The solo music and more information about the forthcoming performance can be obtained from IOM Choral Society who will be holding auditions for interested trebles on Tuesday 26th January at 7pm at St Andrew’s Church, Douglas (opposite St Ninian’s High School). There is no need for the solo to be learnt by heart for the audition as all the young men will sing it together to begin with that evening, to build confidence and get to know the piece, before they each sing it as a solo."

There will be plenty of opportunities for the chosen chorister to rehearse during February and March with IOM Choral Society and IOM Symphony Orchestra.

At their performance on 20th March sponsored by Tower Insurance, IOM Choral Society will additionally be singing with professional soloists and IOM Symphony Orchestra, Puccini’s thrilling Messa di Gloria. This concert, to be conducted by Julian Power, will benefit Beach Buddies whose volunteers do such sterling work in keeping our Island’s beaches clear of rubbish. All audition participants and their families will receive complementary tickets for the concert.

Brian Holt can be contacted at choral@manx.net or telephone 670977
