Project's rule flouting 'unacceptable' - MHK

Serious concerns over report's conclusions

The MHK who called for an investigation into the Peel harbour dredging project says he's deeply concerned at its findings.

A Public Accounts Committee report to be laid in Tynwald this month reaches highly critical conclusions about the Department of Infrastructure's handling of the procurement process.

It investigated the awarding of contracts for the dredging, transportation and disposal of silt from Peel marina last year.

Also under scrutiny, the building and operation of a landfill site in German parish.

The report found financial regulations designed to protect taxpayers' money were ignored or circumvented - and if rules had been followed, costs could have been saved.

Onchan MHK David Quirk called on the Public Accounts Committee to review the project.

He says a very poor state of affairs has come to light:
