Department 'ignored financial regulations' over Peel dredging

by isleofman.com 7th January 2016

Report due before Tynwald this month

A parliamentary committee says the Department of Infrastructure almost completely ignored government financial regulations during the dredging of Peel harbour.

During this month’s Tynwald sitting the court is due to consider a report from the Public Accounts Committee.

It investigated how the Department of Infrastructure had contracted out the jobs of dredging silt from the marina and disposing of it in a landfill site last year.

The report is highly critical of the department, saying the project had been "mishandled".

In its conclusions, the committee says the project could have been done for a better price, the relationship between the department and contractors may have been damaged, and financial regulations were almost completely ignored.
