During the Christmas/New Year holiday, club coach Ian Watson, organised the annual Christmas Junior Fun Day tournament, which attracted an excellent entry of 32. This included some of our top juniors plus Mini Tennis members.
The theme for this year’s event was Star Wars.
Each team was named from a character from Star Wars:
R2-D2, C-3PO, YODA, DARTH VADER, LUKE SKYWALKER, OBI-WAN KENOBI, CHEWBACCA & HAN SOLO
They were split into 8 teams of 4 players.
Teams were made up of 1 yellow ball player (captain) green, orange and red players.
Each team played all the other teams (round robin) and players played one match up to 7 points against their opposing team number.
Every point won counted and they were added to the team score at the end of match.
Teams refereed their own matches.
4 rounds were played and they had lunch. Jan Gaskill provided cakes for all players.
Whilst they were eating lunch a quiz was held and all points scored were added to the team tennis scores.
Another 3 rounds were played after lunch after which there was a prize presentation for the winning team.
C-3PO won the event with 199 points, Luke Skywalker were 2nd with 191 points and in 3rd place were Chewbacca with 186 points.
The C-3PO team consisted of Sasha Thomas (captain) Lucas Harding, James Plumley and Nabel Sheikh. Many thanks to club coach Ian Watson for organising another successful event.
