Ramsey Rugby Club are planning a sponsored beach clean in association with Beach Buddies. The junior section aims to clean the beach along the north promenade, adjacent to their clubhouse. The event is planned for Saturday, February 6th and our regular volunteers are also invited to join in. Refreshments afterwards.
The juniors (aged 6 to under 15) are segregated into year groups, and train each Sunday afternoon at the Mooragh pitch.
Once a month different clubs on the Island take it in turns to host a round robin style event , and by the end of the winter they have been North, East, South and West playing their sport.
At the end of the season under 9s and upwards have the chance to go away on 'tour' and play in a tournament, usually in the Wirral / Cheshire area.
As well as learning rugby skills they are taught the core values of the game - teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.
They understand to go across they have to raise money, and they have already raised ?922 with a bag pack at Shoprite and a group of under 14 lads raised ?200 with a leaflet drop over Christmas.
Hopefully, they can raise some cash on the beach on February 6th whilst also doing a good turn in the community.
If you see the guys and girls on the beach, or even the pitch on a Sunday, you can be sure they are giving it their best shot.
