Dowell delight for Douglas Athletic

by isleofman.com 2nd January 2016

Battling Town edged out

A Connor Dowell goal 16 minutes from time maintained Douglas Athletic’s 100 per cent record on Saturday.

Dowell hit the winner as runaway leaders Athletic won 2-1 at promotion rivals Castletown in a hard fought encounter to move 15 points clear at the top of JCK Division Two.

It was a result which continues their dominance of the division and was a boost for third placed Gymns who remain a point behind Town but have three games in hand.

To their credit, Town gave Athletic their toughest match of the season but it wasn’t quite enough.

Leading marksman Mark Wolfenden opened the scoring after 18 minutes but after that the home side battled back and defender Richard Foden headed them level three minutes after the break.

A defensive mix-up, however, cost Town and Dowell pounced for what proved to be the winner.

The fixture at the Stadium was the sole match to survive the weather.
