Hundreds expected to take part in Island-wide new year's day dips

The Island’s chilliest New Year’s Day tradition will get underway later: with fundraising dips in the sea.

This year, events around the Island will raise money for a range of good causes, including the RNLI, Manx Muscular Dystrohpy, Multiple Sclerosis, Robert Owen House, and Isle of Man Breast Cancer Now.

First into the water will be swimmers in Ramsey, where the dip gets underway at 11am at the lifeboat station on South Promenade.

At midday, it’s the turn of Peel, Laxey and Port St Mary’s event at Chapel Beach, while at 1pm the Douglas dip takes place on Queens Promenade, as does the second south event in the Port St Mary inner harbour.

Gansey will be the venue at 1.45pm, while hardy souls will take to the water from 2.30pm in Port Erin.

Castletown Ale Drinkers will hold their event in the Island's ancient capital from 3pm.
