Questions vital says Lib Van leader

Answers need public forum - Beecroft

South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft says she’s worried the government’s trying to squirm out of answering parliamentary questions.

Her comments come after a complaint from Treasury Minister Eddie Teare about the number and length of queries tabled for Question Time in the House of Keys and Tynwald.

That led to statements from presiding officers of both houses, who warned the volume of detailed questions can overwhelm ministers and their officers.

But Mrs Beecroft says they can make a real difference, pointing to the ministerial resignation in the case of the Sefton bailout deal.

And she says they can be much quicker and more convenient for ministers than the alternative:
