Tribute paid to Jenny Christian

by isleofman.com 21st December 2015
Jenny Christian, who worked for Chamber for over 10 years sadly passed away on 3rd December. Barbara O'Hanlon, former Chief Executive of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce pays tribute to her close friend.

"Jenny began work with the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce in February 1999 and worked for the Chamber for over 10 years - retiring at the end of 2009. Having run her own businesses before joining the Chamber staff, Jenny was well qualified and experienced for her work at the Chamber of Commerce. To many people she was their contact at Chamber, answering the phone and looking after the reception office, taking bookings for functions and welcoming members as they arrived for events.

“Involvement with the organisation of events for Chamber was one aspect of her role that Jenny particularly enjoyed. She was delighted to meet some well-known people who came to the Isle of Man to speak to Chamber - in fact photos of her with some famous visitors featured on her Facebook page. One of these was Levi Roots of "Reggae Reggae Sauce" fame - one of the successful entrepreneurs who appeared on "Dragons’ Den" and who visited the Island in December 2008.

“If I had asked Jenny which event she was personally most proud of I think she would say the day in March 2009 when she got one of the stars of "The Apprentice" TV programme in its early days, Ruth Badger, to speak at a joint event. She also had something to tell her family about when the Duke of York spoke to the Chamber of Commerce at a lunch on 9th October 2003. Jenny was involved in the organisation of the lunch and met the Duke at the event.

“Jenny has three daughters - two living in the UK and one in Spain - and seven grandchildren. Her funeral was on Thursday 17th December. She was a lovely person, a great member of the team at the Chamber of Commerce and will be a sad loss to all who knew her."
