by isleofman.com 18th December 2015

Figures released due to written Tynwald question

The number of people employed by the Department of Health in the hospitals and healthcare system, and the type of contracts they are on, has been revealed.

The figures were set out in reply to a Tynwald question for written answer from Onchan MHK Peter Karran.

They show that on October 31, 1,269 people were employed on a full-time basis, 658 were part-time and 793 were engaged on a zero-hours or 'bank' basis.

There were also 66 medical staff brought in through agencies, all but four of whom were full time.

The department also points out the numbers for zero-hours also includes people doing this as extra, on top of their guaranteed hours.
