Launch of new Telstar Satellite from Japan marks another success for ManSat

by isleofman.com 15th December 2015
Manx satellite filing company ManSat would like to express its congratulations to Telesat, a leading global satellite operator, on the launch of its Telstar 12 VANTAGE satellite.

The new high throughput spacecraft will be utilising frequencies filed via ManSat by the Island’s oldest established satellite operator, Telesat IOM Limited.

Telstar 12 VANTAGE is the first of a new generation of Telesat satellites with capacity optimised to serve the types of bandwidth intensive applications increasingly in demand. Built by Airbus Defence and Space, Telesat’s newest satellite was launched 24 November 2015 aboard an H-IIA rocket provided by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the first commercial satellite launch in Japan’s history.

Telstar 12 Vantage offers many advantages to the satellite user community including its ability to seamlessly connect the Americas to Europe and the Middle East from 15 West, one of the few orbital locations that enables such coverage.

With offices in the Isle of Man, in the UK and the US, the ManSat Group carries out satellite filings for the Isle of Man under a contract with the Manx Government’s Communications Commission. The first Telesat satellite facilitated by ManSat was ViaSat -1 in October 2011 for both ViaSat Isle of Man Ltd and Telesat IOM Limited.

‘Telesat has worked closely with ManSat for a number of years and found them to be highly effective in enabling Telesat to expand our service offerings,’ said Michael Schwartz, Telesat’s Senior Vice President, Corporate & Business Development. ‘We are grateful for ManSat’s efforts in securing frequencies that support the advanced design and capabilities of Telesat’s new Telstar 12 VANTAGE satellite.’

Chris Stott, CEO and Chairman of ManSat, said: ‘This marks a continued commitment by Telesat to the Isle of Man, and will bring income to the Manx Government via licence fees, reinforcing the Island’s leading position as a centre for commercial satellite filing worldwide, behind only the US and the UK.’
