Appeal to help stamp out disease

Save your Xmas stamps for appeal

Island residents are being asked to save stamps from their Christmas post this year - to help people suffering a devastating illness.

St John's-based charity the One World Centre has teamed-up with The Leprosy Mission to collect donations of used stamps, which are sold to collectors around the world.

Leprosy, known at one of the world's oldest illnesses, is curable if caught early - but is still rife in 11 countries.

The Mission helps ease the plight of tens of thousands of sufferers and their families every year.

Rosemary Clarke from the One World Centre says the stamp appeal can make a big difference:
