For Christmas this year, designers at The Flower Studio have been brushing up on their language skills – The Language of Flowers and the Manx Language!
The ‘Nativity’ bouquet tells the Christmas story with flowers - White Lily – Majesty, White Rose – Innocence, Amaryllis - Pastoral Love, Holly & Pine – Hope and Alstromeria – Devotion, along with a sparkly star to symbolise the star over the stable where Jesus was born.
“We wanted to design a bouquet that not only looked pretty, but reminds people of the real reason for the season – the Language of Flowers, which was hugely popular in Victorian times to send messages seemed like the perfect way to do this.” explains Heidi, The Flower Studio’s creative director
The Nativity bouquet is also accompanied with a booklet illustrating the story which also doubles up as an entry into a colouring competition where you can win their top prize – ‘Flowers Every Month for a Year’. There is no age limit, and prizes will be awarded for creativity and artistic flair!
The rest of their collection has been inspired by words from the Manx Language, including some which have been used on the Post Office collection of Christmas stamps.
These include:
• Failt ‘Welcome’ – our luxury door wreaths
• Niart ‘Strength’ – a rich bouquet of red blooms and seasonal foliage
• Shee ‘Peace’ – a calm bouquet of white and gold.
The environment and sustainability is always at the forefront of The Flower Studio’s business so all of their foliage is sourced from a local grower and their imported flowers are grown under a recognised environmental or ethical label.
Recycling is also something their designers are passionate about so as well as recycling their green waste and cardboard, they upcycle old tin cans into unique containers. Their ‘Blooming Can-tastics’ have been given a seasonal makeover as Santa and Frozen’s Elsa.
All designs are available to view and order online at www.flowerstudio.im or in either of their Studios at Tynwald Mills, St Johns and Noa Bakehouse, Fort Street, Douglas.
