This is an appeal to all our senior members and juniors aged 16yrs or over before 15th January 2016. The Isle of Man LTA has arranged for a Level 1 Tennis coaching course to be held on the Island. It will be held on Friday15th, Saturday16th and Sunday 17th January 2016 and held at the Albany Lawn Tennis Club using our indoor court. We have made the indoor court and clubhouse available to the IOMLTA at a reasonable cost to encourage our members to enrol.
The course runs each day from 9am-1pm with a lunch break and 2-5pm and costs ?75 which has been subsidised by the IOM LTA. The qualification will give candidates a ‘Tennis Assistant’ status and is a requirement to becoming a fully qualified tennis coach (if that is the candidates goal).
Our growing junior/ mini tennis programme could really make use of two or three first stage assistant coaches. This was witnessed recently when two of our coaching staff were ill. The children, particular the mini tennis players are disappointed if a Saturday session is cancelled. We managed to hold all the sessions but if we had more coaches this type of incident wouldn’t be a problem. We would like to see some of the parents and our older juniors take up this opportunity.
Having the course here enables more island players to gain the Level 1 qualification without having to travel to the UK and without all the expenses that would involve. This should also be of interest to potential university students – something extra for your CV.
Full details with enrolment forms etc attached has been e-mailed to everyone eligible by age to take part. PLEASE give this some serious thought – you could be so useful to the further development of the club and its members.
In addition, a Competition Organisers Course is to be staged at Albany LTC on the 18th February to enable competitions to be organised, run and refereed (at a lower grade event).
This may be for social tennis, club championships or an open club event at both Junior and Senior tennis level.
The cost is ?25 for a 3 hour course 6-9pm.
The date for the Junior Fun team Tennis Day has been set for Tuesday December 22nd. It starts at 10am and will finish approximately 3pm. The annual event is open to all mini and yellow ball juniors (with the exception of the Saturday 12-1 mini red ball players - due to age and match experience).
All matches are mini red ball and players are put into teams and will play matches against similar age and ability where possible. Matches are all indoors.
Players are to bring a packed lunch and a team quiz will take place during lunchtime.
Cost of the event is ?5 per person. Sign up on the mobile notice board.
