Island police officers taking part in Dave Phillips Memorial Run

by isleofman.com 9th December 2015
The Isle of Man Constabulary will be represented at an event taking place this Sunday in memory of a Merseyside policeman who was killed on duty earlier this year.

Detective Constables Tony Corlett and Emily Butler will line up alongside members of the public and police officers from around the British Isles in the Dave Phillips Memorial Run.

The event, which will raise funds for the Merseyside Police Federation Charitable Trust, has been organised as a tribute to PC Phillips who was fatally injured after being struck by a stolen vehicle in Wallasey in October.

DCs Corlett and Butler will run 6,554 metres – 6554 being PC Phillips’s Merseyside Police collar number – following the River Mersey before finishing at Vale Park, New Brighton.

DC Corlett said: ‘The tragic death of PC Phillips is a reminder of the dangers that police officers and other emergency services personnel face on a daily basis. Officers put their lives on the line in a range of volatile and challenging situations while working to protect vulnerable members of the public.’

DC Butler added: ‘The Isle of Man Constabulary is part of the wider police family and it is important for us to show our solidarity to the family of PC Phillips and to our colleagues across the water. We have a particular affinity with the Merseyside police force and are keen to support their fundraising efforts by taking part in Sunday’s memorial run.’
