The emergency services are warning people not to try to tackle fires, after treating two people who tried to extinguish a blaze in their tumble dryer.
Fire fighters were called to a house in Cambridge Terrace, Douglas, yesterday (Sunday) evening. The occupants said they had put out the fire but it was giving off a lot of smoke.
Two fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus removed the appliance (pictured), fully extinguished the still smouldering dryer and treated two people with oxygen for the effects of smoke inhalation.
Incident commander Mark Walker said members of the public 'should not try and extinguish fires themselves if they need to enter a plume of smoke to do so, as breathing in smoke can quickly render a person unconscious.'
