Risk of losing more than 300 phone lines in Laxey

Major network connections crossing river at risk of irreparable damage

The phone lines of more than 300 homes in Laxey could go down if the bridge in the lower part of the village completely collapses.

The structure partially collapsed on Thursday afternoon, causing a double decker bus to fall into the river - it has yet to be removed.

Manx Telecom has raised the alarm as plans to remove the bus are being discussed.

The concern is if the bus is moved, the bridge which carries major network connections, will give way.

If so, irreparable damage would be caused to fibres and copper cables that cross the river.

Manx Telecom is offering a 'call divert' service, which will foward the landline to another number, such as a mobile, free of charge.

To set up the service you can call 624624. You can also find out more information at manxtelecom.com.
