Desmond disrupts Island events

The stormy weather is causing havoc across the Island

It's time to batten down the hatches as the worsening weather causes major disruption to plans across the Island.

Winds are reaching 65mph to 75mph, and gusts of 80pmh are recorded in the hills.

A red weather warning remains in place as the peak of the storm is expected between 2pm and 6pm.

Police have urged members of the public to stay inside and avoid travelling anywhere unless absolutely necessary.

The mountain road will remain closed until a further assessment tomorrow morning.

In the skies, the London Stansted and Manchester 11:55 flights have been cancelled.

Today's Birkenhead sailings are cancelled, a decision on tonight's Heysham sailing will be made later.

There are no papers today, due to the cancelled sailings and the plane being unable to land this morning.

There have been a large number of cancellations and postponements across the Island.

The Northern Civic Amernity site will be closed all day, the Western Civic Amenity site in St Johns has now closed.

The southern swimming pool closed at noon, and the family library on Westmoreland road in Douglas is now also closed.

In Ramsey the lantern making workshop has been postponed, to a date to be confirmed on Monday.

And the real reindeer event in Onchan Park has been postponed until tomorrow from 10am - 4pm.
