Storm Desmond expected to wreak more havoc

by isleofman.com 5th December 2015

Gusts of 80mph expected across Island today, with red weather warning

Disruption and damage is forecast as the Island prepares to face yet another stormy day.

Gusts of up to 80mph are predicted in some places, accompanying heavy rain to make for more hazardous driving conditions.

Many roads are still recovering from the localised flooding experienced on Thursday - Storm Desmond is expected to cause more devastation to areas across the Isle of Man.

Police are warning people not to make any unnecessary journies; as plans by all the emergency services are put in place ahead of what's expected to be an extremely busy day for them.

The Met Office says the rain is likely to ease off later on tonight, however, the severe gales look set to continue.

Today's Steam Packet sailings to and from Birkenhead are cancelled.

The Department of Infrastructure has asked anyone with reports of flooding or standing water to call 850000.
