Laxey residents evacuated

by isleofman.com 4th December 2015

Several homes on Back Shore Road in Laxey have been evacuated as a result of yesterday's downpour.

Torrential rain has resulted in erosion in the cliff face at the rear of St Judes Lodge (large dark coloured flat-roofed house) that supports Old Laxey Hill. Back Shore road is behind the prom walkway and backs on to the cliff.

Police inspector Andy Kneen said: 'I want to thank the residents affected by this situation for their cooperation and forbearance which made the job of the police and fire officers as easy as possible. It is likely the current closure will continue for at least 48 hours due to the forecasted weather conditions. There is to be no unauthorised access.'
