Red weather warning issued

by isleofman.com 4th December 2015

Storm force winds are expected to bring down trees and cause structural damage to buildings over the next 24 hours.

The met office has issued a red weather warning, with winds expected to gust up to 80mph tonight. Severe gales will continue into tomorrow and there will be heavy rain, with localised flooding as many parts of the island are already water-logged.

However, conditions are not expected to be on the same scale as yesterday, which caught many motorists unaware. Pictured is the scene late yesterday afternoon on Glen Road in Laxey.

The advice from the emergency services is to avoid making any non-essential journeys tonight (Friday) and during the day tomorrow. High tides could affect coastal areas in Shore Road in Gansey, Castletown Promenade, the northern end of Douglas Promenade, Fenella Beach/Castle Causeway in Peel and Laxey Promenade.

Work is ongoing to reopen the mountain road after a landslide deposited 750 tons of debris onto the highway.
