After the deluge - clear up operation begins

by isleofman.com 4th December 2015

Emergency services, DOI workers and volunteers have been working through the night dealing with yesterday's island-wide flooding.

Some roads remain closed this morning.

A police spokesman said: 'We have had unexpected infrastructure damage and are doing our best to get back to normal as quickly as possible.'

The mountain road remains closed after a landslide. Lower Laxey is inaccessible due to the collapse of the bridge, Quarterbridge to Pulrose Bridge is closed, and Injebreck is closed. There is standing water and debris on most roads.

Schools are open and the buses are running, except for the 43 school bus service to Laxey.

And the island is bracing itself for more severe weather. This morning's Steam Packet sailing to Heysham has been cancelled.
Police say: 'Today we are in for more of the same with the added issue of strong winds so please take care, venture out only if necessary and if you have elderly neighbours or those who would welcome a visit please let's do our bit together.'
