Around 20 community health and social care agencies were represented at a Northern community information day held at Ramsey Town Hall.
Supported by Ramsey Town Commissioners the event was one in a series organised by the Northern Networking Group which aims to inform local residents about what practical and financial support is available to those living in the north and draws on expertise from government, private and third-sector healthcare professionals.
Visitors to the town hall were able to meet with representatives from a range agencies including Age Isle of Man, the Stroke Association, Manx Blind Welfare Society and the Macular Society, also health professionals from Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital and the occupational therapy service and members of the OIder Persons community social work team. In addition, visitors were able to observe chair-based exercise demonstrations and have their blood pressure tested.
Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Richard Radcliffe said: ‘Once again the Commissioners were pleased to host the event as we fully support its aims to help older people remain in their homes for longer and lead safe, secure and independent lives. The information day attracted strong interest and was a powerful example of the strong sense of community for which our town is noted.’
Ramsey town hall is home to the town’s public library and hosts Age Isle of Man computer training, twice-weekly chair-based exercise classes and Hospice Isle of Man Wednesday drop-in sessions. Additionally the Commission operates the civil registry service for Ramsey and the north.
