Fire crews warn of Christmas decoration dangers

Top tips for 'decoration safety'

As people across the Island begin to decorate their homes for Christmas, the fire service is warning of potential dangers.

Isle of Man Fire and Rescue has posted a warning on its social media page, reminding people of decoration hazards this festive season.

It's the time of year when lights, big and small fill up windows and doors, and log fires become a Christmas must-have.

All these things however do present a higher risk of house fires, which Island firefighters are keen to prevent.

Blowing out candles, turning off your tree lights and using fireguards are in the list of top tips released on 'Decoration Safety'.

People are also being reminded to test their smoke detectors, not to overload plug sockets and keeping fire places clear of hanging decorations.

To see the full list you can visit the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service page on facebook or twitter @iomfire.
