Health regulator bill blocked by Keys

Beecroft's efforts roundly defeated

Another attempt to implement an independent health regulator for the Island has been quashed by the House of Keys.

South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft requested leave for a Private Members Bill in yesterday's sitting (Tuesday).

But it was defeated by a wide margin - with many members arguing the cost would be too high.

Health Minister Howard Quayle admitted he was open to the idea, but believed the timing wasn't right.

He said the idea could be revisited after a review of the DHSS by the West Midlands Quality Review Service concludes.
