Chief Minister: party politics wouldn't work

Bell's own experience changed his view

Chief Minister Allan Bell says despite starting in politics as a party member, he doesn’t believe a party political system would work on the Island.

Last week, a Junior Chamber of Commerce debate voted overwhelmingly against the idea after LibVan leader Kate Beecroft’s case was defeated by Middle MHK Howard Quayle.

Mr Bell started his political career with nationalist party Mec Vannin in the 1970s but he says he left after the party descended into infighting.

He says that experience means he now opposes having a party system here:
