Government seeks urgent talks over Cambar homes

DEFA officials to meet property vendors and mortgage lenders

The Environment Minister says he's very disappointed that estate agents and mortgage lenders are still questioning Cambar-style homes.

Property owners around Friary Park in Ballabeg say sales are still falling through as some banks won't issue mortgages for the properties which were built in the sixties using pre-cast concrete panels.

The quality of such buildings had been questioned in a 2002 UK-based report but an Isle of Man government-commissioned report last year showed the properties on the Island were of superior quality, had no defects, and were perfectly sound houses.

DEFA says it's setting up urgent talks with property vendors and mortgage lenders.

Minister Richard Ronan says it's a matter of confidence but believes it can be resolved.
