IoM Archery Club Report - 22nd November

by isleofman.com 24th November 2015
A relatively small group of archers met on Sunday to shoot a WA18 round as part of the Club’s Scratch League. The Compound archers and the Senior Recurves shot on Triple face targets, while the Juniors shot on a single face.

In the Gents Compound division Rhys Moore was once again on form setting a new personal best for the round and taking the win by some margin. Colin Moore continued to have a good season by comfortably securing second place. In spite of recording a miss in the first 6 arrows and having a bit of a wobble towards the end of the shoot, Billy Lightfoot managed to take the last place on the podium. Both Pete Mumford and Dave Moore seemed to struggling a little on Sunday with neither man at his best. Both men ended up with the same score and so position was decided by number of golds hit. Dave Moore had 16 golds to Pete’s 13 and so Peter was left with the wooden spoon.

Once again Joy Gough was the only Lady Compound archer in evidence and after a bout of illness earlier in the week her score was nowhere near her best.

Barbara Harris was also on her own in the Ladies Recurve category, her shooting was somewhat erratic and while her score was a season’s best it was still some way below her personal best.

Josh Trafford continued his domination of the Gents Recurve breaking his old pb for the round by 30 points and setting a New Club Record into the bargain. Josh carried on into the afternoon to shoot a Double WA 18 three spot, which also proved to be a pb and a New Club Record. Danny Cowin still struggling to find form suffered three misses to finish in second place, some 69 points behind Josh. Dave Berry had an even worse day, recording 11 misses and had to settle for last place.

Lesley Sleight once again put her Traditional Bow to good use to set another New Club Record.

Only two Juniors turned up for the shoot, Tilly Ashton and Jacob Brookes. Both children improved upon their previous best scores for the round with Jacob adding 44 points to his pb and Tilly adding 49 points to hers.
