With the main body of archers away competing in the NCAS Championships in Wakefield, only nine members of the IoM Archery Club met at Onchan on Sunday. They shot a Worcester Round as part of the Club’s Handicap League. The Handicap system allows all archers irrespective of bow type, age or gender to shoot on a level playing field. The Worcester comprises of 60 arrows, shot in groups of five, with a maximum score of 300.
Colin Moore, the only Compound archer on Sunday, continued his run of excellent form. Colin dropped only three points over the course of the shoot and set a new pb into the bargain. After handicapping however, he had to settle for fifth place.
Tony Hartley put his Traditional Flat Bow to good use on Sunday; recording a personal best score for the round and taking third place overall after the handicap was applied.
Recurve archer Barbara Harris found a bit of form finally, but a lack of concentration just before break caused her to miss and put a dent in her score. She still recorded a season’s best score but finished in last place after handicapping. Denyse Hill, also shooting Recurve, was not happy with her score and wished she had opted for a lie-in instead. Sunday was the third time Denyse has shot Indoors and so can now be given a Handicap for next time.
Of the Juniors shooting on Sunday, Tilly Ashton shone once again adding a terrific 62 points to pb for the round and finishing top of the leader board after handicapping. James Hill shot a little below his best and while he and Tilly had the same scratch score the differences in their handicap meant that James had to settle for fourth place. Jacob Brookes had a poor day shooting well below his usual standard. A new Junior member of the Club also shot on Sunday but his handwriting proved to be illegible so his name remains a mystery to the Records Officer.
Results Worcester Handicap – 1. Tilly Ashton 1488 (60/198/10)pb, 2. John Hill 1464 (59/208/14)pb, 3. Tony Hartley 1457 (55/179/4)pb, 4. James Hill 1443 (56/198/10), 5. Colin Moore 1438 (60/297/57)pb, 6. Jacob Brookes 1426 (37/100/4), 7. Barbara Harris 1418 (59/253/25). Also shooting without Handicap – Denyse Hill 59/205/9pb, Mystery Junior 45/128/2.
Congratulations to the Club Members who did so well in Wakefield.
