The Island's Constabulary is looking to continually improve the service it provide to the victims of domestic violence and abuse, to raise awareness and ensure focus on the issue of violence against women the Constabulary will be supporting the White Ribbon Campaign this year.
Inspector Paul Bryan of the Protective Services Department of The Constabulary said; "November 25th is the United Nation’s International Day for the elimination of violence against women and is a day when all male officers in the Isle of Man Constabulary will be invited to wear a white ribbon, wearing the ribbon is about challenging the acceptability of violence against women and getting men involved to make a pledge never to commit condone or remain silent about violence against women."
The Island's Chief Constable, Gary Roberts added; "The Isle of Man Constabulary wishes to support the White Ribbon Campaign and we are committed to stand united against violence against women, I personally will be making a pledge on the White Ribbon website and encourage all my officers to do the same."
Chief Inspector Steve Maddocks who leads the Protective Services Department of the Constabulary went on to say; "The campaign will be used as part of the drive to continually improve the service we provide to victims of abuse, it should be remembered that abuse is not just violence it can include emotional, financial, controlling and sexual abuse. The Constabulary will do all it can to support victims of abuse and take positive action against perpetrators who commit offences against others in a domestic setting, white ribbon is a vehicle to ensure continued focus in this complex area of investigation."
