Isle of Man Field Archery Championships

Bowderyn Vannin Archery Club held their annual Field Championships at Bushys’ Glen on Sunday. Ten archers braved extremely wet and windy conditions to shoot two rounds of 18 targets.

The Barebow Recurve/ Flatbow Trophy class was the biggest class of the day with eight archers battling to lift the Championship trophy. It was a very close battle between husband and wife Rodger and Lesley Sleight who were both shooting American Flatbow. Rodger took the title by a mere 2 points winning with a score of 462.

The winner of the Barebow Compound Class Trophy and Championship was John Corkill with a score of 502.

Medals were presented to U12 Barebow Class winner Georgia Dobbie, Ladies Barebow Class winner Edith Bankes-Jones , Mens’ Barebow class winner Peter Wilcox and Mens’ Hunting Tackle Class winner Ron Couch.

Results – American Flatbow Class 1st Rodger Sleight- 462, 2nd Lesley Sleight-460, 3rd Richard Killey- 380, 4th Steve Farrar – 358, 5th Pete Heyes – 328. Hunting Tackle Class 1st Ron Couch – 368. Barebow Class 1st – Peter Wilcox – 318, 2nd Edith Bankes- Jones – 310, U12 1st Georgia Dobbie – 316. Compound Barebow 1st – John Corkill – 502.
