What a Thriller in the Villa!

by isleofman.com 12th November 2015
Local events company, PSS Events were the instigators behind the first ever ‘white collar’ boxing night held recently at the Villa Marina, Douglas.

Over 1,500 people attended a terrific night of entertainment with 16 different fights between, both ladies and men, representing a variety of organisations – such as Sure vs Manx Telecom, Douglas vs Ramsey, a golden handbag bout, Braveheart Clash of the Clans, Chris Mayers vs Warren Spencer and the main event Scott Caldwell vs Rob Henwood.

The evening, fantastically compered by George Campbell – who flew in for the night – opened to Jade Thomas and the ladies from Savina’s Secret showcasing how pole dancing is a full-body workout, also saw a lovely young lady, Kayleigh shave her hair off and two men getting waxed live on stage!

All these efforts were to raise funds for Hospice Isle of Man and Rebecca House.

Head of Income Generation for the charities, Mary Doyle said: “it was mind-blowing, a truly mesmerising night – the atmosphere was electric! “From the very beginning the crowd got right behind the event. “I would like to thank Chris Mooney, Jackie Fernie and all the team from PSS Events for their terrific hard work for our charity.” “We held a wrap up event at Hospice which included showing all the boxers what we do, how much it costs and the difference it makes to our families lives – what a great bunch of people they were – thank you to them all.”

Money is still being donated but it is hoped that nearly ?20,000 will have been raised for the charities. All costs were covered by PSS Events.

Boxers on the night included Edward Shimmin, Brett Holland, Gareth Farrell, Lee Gelling, Robert Dunn, Daniel Thomas, Graeme Banfield, Kevin Moonan, Michael Carr, Stuart Rae, Hayley Hemsley, Rhiannon Edwards, Tristan Kewley, Lewis Qualtrough, Rachel Roosenbroek, Lynsey Martin, Jonathon Stockton, Daniel Dynus, Eamonn Moore, Deniss Sergejevs, Steven England, Craig Melvin, Johnny Glover, Glenn Hitchen, Norman Alexander, Jimmy McDonald, Chris Mayers, Warren Spencer, Scott Caldwell, Rob Henwood, Becky Robinson and Clare Hall.

Chris added: “It took a year and half to come to fruition but it was so successful we are keen to do it all again next year.” “We are delighted that we now have next year’s date of Friday 23rd September 2016 confirmed with the Villa Marina.”

“I would like to thank my team, all the boxers who trained hard for over 3 months, all raffle donors including Sure, Passion Hair and Beauty Salon, Whistle, Thorntons, The Book Company, Curphey’s, Butler’s Choice, InterSport, Sweets n’ Treats, John McGuinness, Guy Martin, Conor Cummins, Dan Kneen, Promenade and Embroidery, Michael Dunlop, Ian Hutchinson, Nexus vodka Bar, Cunard Apartments, Carl Cox, Savina’s Secret and everyone that made this event; a true night to remember."
