Two of the Isle of Man’s outstanding young athletes have received a special sponsorship bonus with donations from Nedgroup Investments through the Sports Aid programme.
Earlier in the year Nedgroup Investments made a sponsorship award of ?1,500 to Sports Aid who in turn selected Catherine Reid and Beckie Storrie to benefit from the contribution.
During a recent visit to the company’s offices in Douglas Catherine and Beckie when they met staff and talked about their ambitions they each received a Nedgroup Investments branded Nike Sports Top.
Catherine has had an outstanding season in 2015 and achieved a bronze in the World Youth Games and was recently named winner of the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund annual awards as under 18 athlete of the year.
Beckie is an up and coming tri-athlete who has recently became the first Manx athlete to be accepted on the British Triathlon North West Academy.
“We have been following the performances of Catherine and Beckie and we wanted to make a donation to recognise their brilliant achievements,” said Andrew Lodge, Managing Director of Nedgroup Investments.
“They have been making major headlines and giving the Isle of Man valuable publicity at the same time, and we were keen to give our support at this important time in their careers.”
Both Catherine and Beckie are ambitious and determined to achieve further success in the future. They both want to eventually become professional athletes, and reach their best possible potential in their respective disciplines.
“I am aiming for an Olympic medal,” said Catherine. “I would like to be a professional,” said Beckie.
In the meantime, with the British athletics season now over, both girls are preparing for 2016, with Catherine using the time to recover from an injury and Beckie spending a lot of time training in the swimming pool.
Andrew Lodge added, “Catherine and Beckie are another example of how the Isle of Man continues to produce top class performers in a wide range of sports.
“We are delighted to be able to give them our support, now and in the future, and we will be watching their careers very closely as they develop. They are a tribute to the Isle of Man.”
