Post Office supports 2015 Poppy Appeal

by isleofman.com 10th November 2015
Isle of Man Post Office is supporting the 2015 Poppy Campaign. During the Appeal period which runs until November 11 each of the Post Offices vehicles will adorn a poppy and its staff have been encouraged to wear one with their Post Office uniform and attire.

The Poppy Appeal helps thousands of veterans, service men, women and their families with vital advice and support as well as remembering those who fell in the line of duty. The Post Office played a particularly prevalent role during WW1 and WW2 and indeed continues to pay tribute with its memorial plaques at Regent Street Post Office for those workers who fell in the line of duty.

The Post Offices collection of poppies has been sourced as ever from the local Isle of Man Royal British Legion branch, which raised in excess of ?143,640.70 for the 2014 Appeal.

To add to this, the Post Office early this year released a set of six stamps depicting a range of WW1 battle scenes as it continued to mark the centenary of ‘The Great War’ in support of the Royal British Legion as part of its four year thematic stamp series running from 2014 – 2017.

Graham Cregeen MHK, Chairman of Isle of Man Post Office said: "The Post Office is pleased to do all it can to continue to support this important initiative which offers a wide range of services and support for our veterans, serving personnel and their families. We have set up collection points around each of our delivery offices across the Island and at our Postal Headquarters Customer Services Centre for anyone wishing to purchase a poppy or make a donation.”
