Tynwald is to be asked to approve reducing the size of the Education Council.
The change would come into effect when the new Education Council is appointed in December.
The Education Council advises the Department, meeting formally once a term, and its members sit on the governing bodies of schools and the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education.
It’s proposed to reduce membership from 15 to a maximum of 10.
Tim Crookall MLC, Minister for Education and Children, said: ‘The effectiveness of the Education Council will not be affected by the reduction in number. There will be an associated cost saving.’
The Education Council (Amendment) Order 2015 will, if approved by Tynwald, also streamline the selection process for members, with the Department of Education and Children and not the Appointments Commission selecting members.
The current Education Council is aware of the proposal.
