Pictured are Dawn Herbert and Aly Craig from Oskar’s Dreams/Remember Jade with Lynsey Christian, Young People’s Support Worker at Hospice Isle of Man.
This wonderful donation of ?6,163 had been given to cover Lynsey’s education costs in connection with her 4 year Diploma in Child Psychotherapy. This course is being undertaken in the UK as it is not possible to qualify on the Isle of Man.
This diploma allows Lynsey to be recognised as a provider of high level counselling support for children and young people who are struggling to cope with their own life-limiting illness or that of a close family member.
Due to the complex nature of this work, her further training in Child Psychotherapy allows Lynsey to provide specific therapies appropriate to each child’s age and stage of development, distress, or grief. Lynsey’s studies enable her to offer psychological support to patients within the recognised guidelines of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). New regulations in the counselling profession requires counsellors and psychotherapists to undertake either a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or UK Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP) recognised course in order to be registered and accredited.
Lynsey thanked the charity for the on-going support of her training qualifications. Currently there are 47 young people attending this service at Hospice. The sessions are held in Jade’s Place – the ideal setting for this type of support. In addition Oskar’s Dreams/Remember Jade started funding this role in 2014 and have supported Lynsey throughout 2015.
