The Annual General Meeting of the club was held on Wednesday and well attended.
Chairman Stuart Colligon gave a detailed report on club activities and actions during the past year. There had been an increase in membership particular with the Mini Tennis Red Ball players. This is also leading to parents taking up tennis again and the adult coaching is well attended. He congratulated all players involved in the club’s various league successes and said the club had had a good season on court. Budgeting for the maintenance of a club with such good facilities takes a lot of hard work by the committee and he thanked them for the many hours time they volunteer for the benefit of all club members.
The Treasurer, David Bufton, would present a pleasing set of accounts which should show how well we are managing our affairs off court. Treasurer’s report - showed steady progress despite the club’s expenses being high to maintain the courts, indoor court and clubhouse and admin. Part payments would be made to the members who loaned money towards the extra cost of the new courts. Very few questions were asked and the accounts were adopted unanimously.
The membership Secretary, Jan Gaskill, proposed that all memberships would be increased by ?5 in every category for 2016/17, to help cover the costs of caring for the excellent premises which includes repainting the club house which is now 14 yrs old. The election of officers – the proposal was that the committee be re-elected en-bloc with an additional member Emma Cashmore. Life Members and Vice Presidents were also re-elected.
The W K Dale Trophy, originally donated by a former club treasurer in the 1960s as recognition of a member who had given so much time to the club both on and off court. In awarding this on behalf of the committee to Jackie Russell, club secretary, Pat Sharp, said that although Jackie was a busy wife and mum and worked full time, she still gave her time to the club playing in the leagues, competitions and socially as well supporting social activities. The Club President presented her with the trophy.
