The 2nd Isle of Man Poomsae Championship saw 58 competitors from five clubs go for gold at the National Sports Centre.
The Island-based Taekwondo clubs involved were Manx Tigers, Southern Tigers, Tynwald Tigers, Manx Vikings and Flying Phoenix.
Competitors took part in a number of individual and team categories, under the watchful eye of Master Keith Evans, International Poomsae referee, who judged each category.
2nd Dan black belt Jay Suico won overall best male Poomsae competitor across all categories, with 3rd Dan Hannah Doyle winning best female competitor.
Competition organiser and Poomsae coach Lisa Meads said: ‘As we get bigger each year, we expect more students and more entrants, particularly in the pairs and team categories. Students from all five clubs were very successful in winning medals, but the overall club winners were Manx Tigers, who gained the most overall points from the competition. Some Flying Phoenix students particularly impressed considering they focus more on Olympic sparring in their classes. We are planning to send a team to the world championships in Peru late 2016.
‘All students, coaches and parents had a fantastic day and IOMTKD would like to thank all those who assisted with the organisation of the event, and all the competitors, along with the parents of the younger students who attended.’
IOMTKD is a non-profit making organisation set up 15 years ago to promote the teaching and development of the Olympic and Commonwealth sport in the Island, which is an associate member nation of the World Taekwondo Federation.
