Adventurous Experiences have once again been selected as a finalist at the 2015 Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence for the Corporate & Social Responsibility award.
This is in recognition of the work the Adventure Sports Centre undertakes with their Youth Scholarship programme. As the main community project the development and leadership training programme provides scholarships (including 18 months of adventure training, throughout the winter as well as the summer months) culminating in a team of Manx students undertaking an overseas expedition. Places are offered to Year 12 students from the Island's secondary schools, for those who show immense enthusiasm and have the dedication to complete the training.
This year Adventurous Experiences partnered with Conister Bank in order to add sustainability to the programme on a longer term basis, up until now Adventurous Experiences have fully funded all training.
Conister Bank share many of the values of Adventurous Experiences and this partnership demonstrates joined up thinking in coaching people, changing perspectives.
Conister Bank Managing Director, Juan Kelly said “We are delighted to be part of the Youth Scholarship programme, the team have enjoyed spending time with the group as their training has progressed and are really impressed with their achievements so far”
Adventurous Experiences programme manager John Keggin said "As our main community project, it is also a focal point of our long term strategy to raise the level of outdoor skills and safety on the Island."
This years intake of students began in January and 10 of them are now training towards their expedition which they have selected as being Vancouver Island, next July.
The awards evening takes place on November 19th at the Villa Marina.
