Free TV licences for over 75s?

by isleofman.com 22nd October 2015

The Isle of Man will ask the BBC to cover the cost of television licences for the over 75s.

It follows an agreement between the corporation and the UK government, where funding free licences for that age group cost the government ?608million last year. The move is being phased in over three years, with the BBC meeting the full licence cost from 2020.

In the Isle of Man, over 75s have to pay for their licence, with those on income support being exempt. In Tynwald this week, Treasury Minister Eddie Teare said he would be seeking the same deal for the island.
