LegCo blocks parking charge

by isleofman.com 21st October 2015

A move that would see civil servants and all members of Tynwald pay to park in central Douglas has failed.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne wanted to phase in an annual charge of ?770 over four years, saying that free car parking for staff and politicians in areas where the public is charged to park was 'neither fair nor defensible'.

Most MHKs voted in favour of the charge after a Tynwald debate but it was thrown out by the Legislative Council. Mr Gawne is bringing the issue back to next month's parliamentary sitting for a combined vote.
