On Tuesday November 17 more than 120 students will participate in ‘Global Entrepreneurship Day’ organised by Manx charity Junior Achievement and supported by Barclays Bank.

The aim of the event is to inspire and equip young people with a range of entrepreneurial skills that will help them to set up and run their own student business as part of the Junior Achievement Company Programme.

The one-day event will be held during Global Entrepreneurship Week, the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

Global Entrepreneurship Day will be hosted by Ballakermeen High School’s sixth form and Manx students will be able to learn top tips from a host of successful young entrepreneurs.

One of the guest speakers is Fraser Doherty MBE, who will deliver a masterclass on how to pitch your business idea to a major retailer or buyer.

Fraser is the founder of SuperJam, Envelope Coffee and co-founder of Beer52. In 2007 he was awarded Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year and appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to business.

Junior Achievement CEO Sue Cook said: ‘We are incredibly excited about this event and to be given the opportunity to bring successful young entrepreneurs to the Isle of Man to run a range of masterclasses in business. Students will learn first-hand from the very best and we are grateful to Barclays for their support.’ She went on to say: ‘It is important to support young people who want to start their own business and ultimately create jobs, as this will help secure a robust future for the Manx economy.’
