The Isle of Man's first biodiversity strategy will be laid before Tynwald next week.
An action plan is being developed to manage wildlife, sea and landscape resources. The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says the 'sustainable and innovative' management of natural wealth ties in with the island's bid to become the first entire jurisdiction to secure prestigious UNESCO recognition.
DEFA Minister Richard Ronan says: 'The community involvementand advantages to the economy associated with achieving the accolade - andour reputation as an innovative international neighbour - will be significantlyenhanced if the Isle of Man can demonstrate that it has a progressivestrategy for the sustainable management of its biodiversity.'
