The IoM Archery Club met on Sunday to shoot a WA18 round as part of the Club’s Scratch League. The WA18 consists of 60 arrows shot at the smallest of the Indoor target faces, with the Compound archers using a triple face target. Thirteen archers turned out and it was good to see Dave Berry back indoors again after a long lay-off.
Numbers were down in the Gent’s Compound division with Dave and Rhys Moore across watching the Rugby World Cup. Pete Mumford faced off against Colin Moore; neither man was at his best but Pete took an easy win. Joy Gough was the only Lady Compound in evidence and she put in a solid score.
In the Gents Recurve Danny Cowin and Josh Trafford were joined by Dave Berry who was shooting for the first time after wrist and knee surgery. Dave was understandably rusty and missed with the last arrow of the morning. Josh was breaking in new heavier limbs on his bow which affected his score and so he had to settle for second place. Danny Cowin added 9 points to his pb, breaking the 500 barrier for the first time on a single face and taking the win.
In the Boys Recurve Jacob Brookes shooting the round for the first time put in a respectable score but had to settle for last place. Joseph Reaney and Toby Young put in scores that were just a few points below their best and finished second and third respectively. James Hill, who had been a little off form the previous week, shot well adding 21 points to his pb and taking the win by over 50 points.
Three novice archers elected to shoot a Portsmouth round, they were John Hill, Matt Elliot and Tilly Ashton. Junior girl Tilly was shooting with a clicker on her bow for the first time and had the best improvement of the day adding 22 points to her pb.
