Public servants to pay to park

by isleofman.com 13th October 2015

Tynwald will be asked next week to agree to end free car parking in central Douglas for civil servants and politicians.

Charges to be introduced next April will apply to all members of Tynwald. If approved, the annual fee of ?770 will be phased in over four years.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne said it was recognised that free car parking for staff in areas where the public is charged to park in order to access public services was neither fair nor defensible. The new policy would apply to all 'public servants' in the central Douglas disc zone area and the phrase included 'employee' and 'staff' and extended to Tynwald members, the judiciary and Crown officers.
